What happened
Kakao launched Kanana in beta in May 2025 as a standalone chatbot for questions and image generation. Chosun Ilbo reported its monthly users fell from 69,631 in May 2025 to 10,488 in August 2026, per IGAWorks data, and that it is being shut down without ever leaving beta. Kakao said it is ending the experiment and will reuse the work in new offerings, including AI inside KakaoTalk.
