What happened
Deel tried an OpenClaw-style agent on a tightly controlled virtual machine, aiming to train it as a fully autonomous customer success manager that answered client emails and internal messages without human oversight. COO Dan Westgarth told Deel's own news desk in May 2026 that it did not work because compute was too slow, the model was not capable enough and the needed context could not be retrieved fast enough, so Deel shut the project down. Deel has not said how long it ran or whether it ever handled live client accounts. This account is published by Deel itself.
